Groundhog Day

“Well, it’s groundhog day… again…”

Hey friends. Here’s what you need to do sometime in the next few days. Get your hands on a copy of Groundhog Day which, if you don’t know already, is a 1993 movie starring Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell, about a preternaturally conceited weatherman named Phil Connors who finds himself reliving the same day over and over again, and watch it.

Here’s why: Bill Murray, whose skill as an actor I run out of superlatives to describe, and who I immediately fall in love with the minute he comes on screen. He’s wonderful. And Andie MacDowell, who is best described as “luminous,” and whose performance as Phil’s longsuffering producer is perfectly sweet and disarming. And a story of redemption and transformation and love. Watch it soon. You won’t regret it.

  1. Yes! (Although I don’t think Andie MacDowell really brings that much to the film.) I was actually hoping that some TV station would be smart enough to show GD last night, but alas they didn’t.

    • See, I think SO many actresses would have been less sweet, more impatient or incredulous or snarky, and I think she’s the perfect foil for Phil’s curmudgeonliness.
